Dwelling
ANN COFTA
August 29 - September 19
press release
Dwelling, a solo exhibition of recent works by New York based textile artist Ann Cofta, features several fabric quilts. The artist reflects on city buildings that create stability and continuity in an ever-changing world. This current series includes imagery of city locales that echo the quiet solitude of a Hopper painting. Windows are dark, and the pieces are void of people and the usual vibrancy associated with city life. Collectively, the artwork references the city structures that surround us, ground us, and connect us to our collective pasts. Also in the show are recent pieces, including a variety of apartment and factory buildings, as well as a series of smaller water towers.
This virtual exhibition is accompanied by a Gallery Window Display at AlterWork Studios. Many of the works below will be displayed from August 31 thru September 7 in the studio’s storefront gallery from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. The artist will be at the studio on Wednesday, September 2 from 5 - 7 p.m. and on Saturday, September 5 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. to greet those viewing the exhibit. Please note that the studio building will not be accessible to the public during these times. Viewers will be expected to maintain social distancing and wear a mask at all times while viewing the exhibit from the sidewalk.
