Our Shared Studio Space is a communal work area that offers artists a multitude of resources and tools to create artwork of all disciplines. Access is based on a membership tier. There are three types of shared monthly memberships: Premium, Standard and Limited.
PREMIUM MEMBERSHIP ($375/month):
A Premium Membership includes all departments. Our Premium members receive:
unlimited 24/7 keyed access to our workspaces and tools
one personal shelf for storage (18”x 36” x 16”)
free wi-fi and utilities
free use of our gallery space
20% discount to classes and workshops
Darkroom use
Use of our mixed clay, slips, and glazes
Free firing for any item smaller then 12” in any direction ($0.06 per cubic inch for items over 12” and refires)
STANDARD MEMBERSHIP ($275/month):
Our Standard Members receive:

Firing Fees are not included: $0.05 per cubic inch for items under 12” and $0.06 per cubic inch for items over 12” in any direction. Re-firing is $0.06 per cubic inch.
LIMITED MEMBERSHIP ($175/month):
Our Limited Members receive:
Studio access during our public hours: 12-9pm daily except on holidays when the studio is closed

free wi-fi and utilities
Limited membership does not include storage or firing fees. Shelves can be rented for an additional $25 per month. Firing Fees are: $0.05 per cubic inch for items under 12” and $0.06 per cubic inch for items over 12” in any direction. Re-firing is $0.06 per cubic inch.
There is also a limited selection of constantly changing donated supplies that are available for our members use.
short term
studio rental
Our studio may also be rented for short term projects to artists and gallerists who need a fully furnished and equipped studio to finish projects or prepare for exhibitions. Short Term Rental does not include kiln firings, discounts, storage or any of our materials. Short Term Rental is subject to project approval and includes only space and tools. You must email tina@alterworkstudios.com to get approved. Once approved you will be able to use the space with a studio monitor present.
Our short term rates are as follows: Weekly Fee: $ 200, Daily Fee: $ 120, Hourly Fee: $ 20 Storage Shelf: $25
Please note: Prices are per person; collaborators and assistants are required to pay the same rental fees.
art fabrication
AlterWork Studios offers art fabrication services. Our backgrounds in fine art and design, provide us with proficient and masterly experience in a wide range of materials and techniques. We strive to collaborate with artists and designers in all stages of art-making, from concept and prototyping to on-site rigging and installation with excellent attention to detail.

GALLERY SPACE
Our gallery space is free for our members to use and can be rented by others for shows, art performance, installation and artists talks. It is open to the public from 12pm - 9pm daily.

membership
AlterWork Studios offers artists full access to a multi-disciplinary facility for independently produced projects. Artists work in a productive atmosphere alongside their peers. Participants should have experience in the techniques and the equipment they wish to use. Technical assistance is not included in the Studio Membership, but is available at additional cost. Studios are open to US and international artists.
During the application process, you will be asked to fill out a registration form pertaining to your artistic activity, contact and payment information, for our records and security. Artists are not required to sign a lease or commit to a specific duration however we do require signed studio guidelines to commence and one month notice to end your studio membership. All studio property and keys must be returned if borrowed, workspace and storage areas must be completely cleaned and vacated of all of the artist’s artwork, materials and tools by the end hour of your rental.

AlterWork Studios is located 10 minutes from Midtown Manhattan in Long Island City's growing art community sharing the neighborhood with Kaufman Arts District, Flux Factory, Museum of the Moving Image, Socrates Sculpture Park, Isamu Noguchi Museum, Kaufman Astoria Studios, MoMA PS1, Chocolate Factory Theater, transportation and a vibrant community of shops, bars and restaurants.
