When the Fire Dies

press release

“When the Fire Dies” is a collection of multimedia works that examine the unstable environments perpetuated by industry, consumption, and resource extraction while acting as mediators for subconscious fears. Each work is a multi-scale reckoning with a near-future inspired by geology, oil extraction, and the by-products of fossil fuels.  Using a carbon based ink, the seven part drawing series depicts the conditions that lead to collapse through symbolic relationships between machinery, landscape, the individual and the collective. The video/soundscape confronts the shared fragility of the body and Earth in the Anthropocene, while the reliefs show 3 periods of transformation, reflecting the crisis of scarcity and material dependency.
